Milan is the ultimate Italian media and TV centre, and is at the top of the world music circuit, thanks to the opera season at Teatro alla Scala and its long operatic tradition.
It’s also the capital of Italian Fashion and Luxury Shopping. There are numerous shops and boutiques in the area of Via Montenapoleone and along the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the famous walkway located near the Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente, better known by the name of Duomo.
The Galleria, covered with iron structures and glass in eclectic style, connects Piazza della Scala and Piazza del Duomo. A word of advice? Stroll in the gallery at night. An enchantment.
If you love opera, you’ll be happy to admire the eighteenth-century Teatro della Scala, one of the most famous opera theatres in the world; other interesting places are the Castello Sforzesco, the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and the complex housing the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Cenacolo Leonardo UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city also has plenty of museums and art galleries; the most famous is certainly the Pinacoteca di Brera.
From 1 May to 31 October 2015 Milan hosted Expo with the slogan “Feed the planet, energy for life”; an exhibition site of 110 hectares was built for this event near the Fiera di Milano.
